The ten-step Korean skincare routine has been written about so many times that it's become more myth than method. The reality is that most Koreans don't follow ten steps every day. What they do follow is a consistent philosophy: hydration first, protection always, and patience above everything.
The actual non-negotiables in a Korean routine are a gentle cleanser, a hydrating toner or essence, an active serum, a moisturiser, and SPF in the morning. Everything else, sheet masks, ampoules, eye creams, sleeping packs, are additions you layer in based on what your skin needs that week.
What makes Korean skincare different from Western routines isn't the number of steps. It's the order and the intent behind each one. Where Western routines often focus on correcting problems after they appear, Korean routines are built around prevention. You keep the barrier strong so problems don't start. You hydrate consistently so your skin doesn't need to overcompensate with oil. You treat gently so you don't trigger inflammation cycles.
The cleanser matters more than most people think. A stripping cleanser that leaves your skin feeling tight has already started the damage before you've applied anything else. Our Gel Cleanser uses Coco-Glucoside, a coconut-derived surfactant, and Glycerin to clean without disrupting the moisture balance. Your skin should feel clean and comfortable after washing, not squeaky, not dry.
After cleansing, the window for absorption is short. Apply your serum within sixty seconds of washing your face, while your skin is still slightly damp. This is when Sodium Hyaluronate in particular is most effective, it pulls water into the skin rather than sitting on top of it.
The routine we recommend for most people: Gel Cleanser morning and night, Serum morning and night, Face Cream to seal everything in, SPF 30 or higher every morning. Add the Eye Cream around the orbital bone, not on the lash line, morning and night. That's it. Simple, consistent, effective.
